Sound in Action is terug! Met een avond in het teken van Nederlandse hiphop

Nederlandse hiphop is groter dan ooit, en omdat het een genre is dat sterk geassocieerd wordt met zwart verzet, tegencultuur en jeugdidentiteit, wil Sound in Action weten wat dit betekent in de Nederlandse context. Wij stellen vragen als: hoe vormen en performen Nederlandse jongeren hun identiteit door middel van hiphop? Kan hip-hop de stem zijn van een etnisch- en cultureel divers Nederland, dat weerstand biedt aan het gepolariseerde debat over identiteit in Nederland? En hoe verhoudt Nederlandse hiphop zich tot #BlackLivesMatter?

Over deze vragen praten we samen met SMIB-mede-oprichter Myrtho Semmoh, beter bekend onder de naam Soortkill, oprichter en directeur van de Marmoucha-stichting Said Salhi en PhD-onderzoekers Aafje de Roest en Wouter Capitain. De discussie wordt geleid door filmmaker en schrijver Sharog Manesh

Maar we gaan niet alleen praten: Fosa YG en Loopey, twee jonge hiphopartiesten, deel van het hiphopcollectief SMIB, zullen onder andere hun liedjes KLM, HET IS EEN VIBE en NIKEYS performen

Sound in Action is back! With a night all about Dutch hip-hop

Dutch hip-hop is bigger than ever, and as a genre strongly associated with black resistance, counterculture, and youth identity, Sound in Action wants to know what this means within the Dutch context. We ask questions such as: how are Dutch youngsters (per)forming their identities through hip-hop? Could hip-hop be the voice of an ethnically and culturally diverse Netherlands that presents an alternative to the polarized debate about identity in the Netherlands? And how is Dutch hip-hop related to #BlackLivesMatter?

We will talk about these questions together with SMIB co-founder Myrtho Semmoh, better known under the name Soortkill, founder and director of the Marmoucha foundation Said Salhi and PhD researchers Aafje de Roest and Wouter Capitain. The discussion will be moderated by filmmaker and writer Sharog Manesh

But we are not only going to talk: Fosa YG and Loopey, two young hip-hop artists part of the hip-hop collective SMIB will perform their songs KLM, HET IS EEN VIBE and NIKEYS among many others
